Dominguez 68 and Rispoli 1 battled it out for a second time in SuperSport Race 2.
Dustin Dominguez (68) made it a perfect weekend, going 1-1 in AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport.
Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez took his second win of the weekend in AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Race 2 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Dominguez prevailed after a hard-fought battle with Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli, who ended in second. RoadRace Factory’s Hayden Gillim was not far behind and rounded out the podium just 0.449 behind Rispoli.

SuperSport action opened with Gillim holding the lead through the early laps until, with 11 laps remaining, both Dominguez and Rispoli pushed past, dropping the Yamaha rider to third. Just one lap later a red flag stalled the race and the field returned to the pits. Once the wrecked bike and rider were safely off the track, the contest restarted and the battle between Dominguez, Rispoli and Gillim resumed. Toward the end of Race 2, Rispoli made moves for the front but couldn’t make his pass attempts stick.

"The last couple of laps I had a strategy, I wasn't going to show all my cards until the last lap and it worked," said Dominguez.

"It was a blast and I was pushing with everything I had but Dustin was riding great," said Rispoli. "I wish we could have ridden another five laps. It was fun. Dustin just shattered my plans with that last lap."

Kneedragger.com’s Stefano Mesa lagged by over six seconds behind Gillim in fourth. Suzuki’s Elena Myers came out after the restart and aggressively pushed up the pack, finishing in fifth followed by RFC’s Ryan Kerr in sixth. Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman, fresh off his fourth-place finish in XR1200, scored seventh ahead Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Jake Lewis.

Despite his disappointing showing at Mid-Ohio, Lewis remains at the top of the points list, though now he shares the total with Dominguez. Mesa continues to sit in third overall followed by RoadRace Factory's Tomas Puerta in fourth. Puerta crashed out of Race 2 and received no points for the round.
