Josh Hayes was fastest in the first AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike qualifying session at NOLA.
Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes topped the timesheets in the first AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike qualifying session at New Orleans Motorsports Park. The Mississippi native beat out National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Hayden by 0.998 seconds. Yoshimura Suzuki’s Blake Young rounded out the top three a further 0.021 seconds back.

Hayes wrapped up the 2012 AMA Pro Road Racing championship at the previous round in Miami and will be looking to score his 31st and possibly 32nd SuperBike race wins since 2009. Hayden returns to action having scored his first race win of the season in Race 1 at Homestead-Miami, a win which broke Hayes’ previous 10-race streak. Hayden was one of the fastest riders during testing at NOLA earlier in the year and will be looking to maintain the positive momentum he generated during the previous contest. Young has locked in second-place overall for the season, 100 points ahead of current third-place rider Josh Herrin, Hayes’ teammate.

Team Hero’s Danny Eslick came in fourth-fastest, followed by Jordan Suzuki’s Ben Bostrom in fifth. Foremost Insurance’s Larry Pegram was sixth with Team Venezuela’s Robertino Pietri in seventh. Team Amsoil/Hero’s Geoff May and KTM’s Chris Fillmore took eighth and ninth respectively, followed by Riders Discount’s Taylor Knapp, who rounded out the top-10.
