Joan Lascorz has been transported to his native Spain to recover from injuries sustained during World Superbike testing at the Imola circuit on April 2. The Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) rider was moved to Barcelona’s Valle Hebron hospital after surgery to stabilize a fractured vertebra at the Hospital Magiore di Bologna.

Initial team reports stated Lascorz injury was to the T6 vertebra, but the latest press release from KRT states injury to the C6 vertebra. The previous statement also confirmed that impact from the crash moved the vertebra and caused spinal damage.

The latest update from Kawasaki states that “the final extent of any neurological injuries he [Lascorz] may have suffered are not currently clear and will not be fully known until the swelling around the affected area reduces.”

The 27-year-old Lascorz crashed during a single-day, post-race SBK test at Imola. The day prior Lascorz had finished seventh and ninth at the Autodromo Enzo e Ferrari circuit during Round 2 of the World Superbike Championship.

After his crash Lascorz was treated at Imola’s medical center. Once a probable vertebrae fracture was identified, Lascorz was immediately transported to the Bologna hospital via helicopter. That evening surgeons relocated the fractured vertebra.
