World Superbike Donington Superpole 2012

Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes continues to let the good times roll in SBK qualifying. The Englishman claimed his fourth Superpole of the 2012 season, edging out fellow Brit Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad) for pole position at Donington. Joining the to English riders on Row 1 is the Italian duo of Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad) and Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing). Reigning SBK champion Carlos Checa will start Sunday’s double header from Row 3, the Althea Ducati rider eliminated in Superpole 2.

Sykes bested Haslam by 0.148 for the Tissot Superpole. The Kawasaki Racing Team standout figures to be battling for his first dry SBK win on Sunday. Haslam also looks primed to deliver BMW its maiden SBK victory. The two front runners were the only riders to dip under the 1’28 mark.

Checa was outclassed in Superpole by the Effenbert Liberty Ducatis, which bookend Row 2. French rider Sylvain Guintoli was the faster of the two, qualifying fifth. Jakub Smrz, who held provisional pole on Friday, will start the Donington races from eighth on the grid. The two Ducs flank Honda World Superbike’s Jonathan Rea and FIXI Crescent Suzuki’s Leon Camier, the latter rider eliminated Checa from the final Superpole session by a mere 0.063.

Carlos Checa will start the Donington doubleheader from Row 3 after qualifying ninth in Superpole.
Row 3 sees Checa at the front, followed by the BMW Motorrad Italia Gold Bet duo Ayrton Badovini. Irishman Eugene Laverty was 12th in Superpole. The final row of Superpole qualifiers is Ducati heavy, with Althea Racing’s second rider Davide Giugliano leading the quartet, followed by Niccolo Canepa (Red Devils Roma) and Maxime Berger (Effenbert Liberty Racing). ParkinGO Aprilia rider Chaz Davies rounds out the Superpole participants.

Jules Cluzel secured pole position for the Donington World Supersport race.
French rider Jules Cluzel secured pole position for the Donington World Supersport race, the PTR Honda pilot arriving at the British round after nabbing his first WSS victory at the preceding Monza round.

PTR Honda’s Jules Cluzel will start the Donington World Superpsort race from pole position. Fresh off his first victory of 2012 at the preceding Monza round, Cluzel leads CBR600 cohorts Sam Lowes (Bogdanka PTR Honda) and Broc Parkes (Ten Kate Honda) on Row 1. Championship points leader Kenan Sofuoglu qualified fourth, the fastest Kawasaki on the grid. Usual front-running ZX-6R pilot and Imola race winner Fabien Foret (Kawasaki Intermoto Step) qualified 10th.
