Indianapolis MotoGP Practice Results 2012

Friday, August 17, 2012
Casey Stoner was fifth-fastest in combined practice time at Indy.
Casey Stoner was fastest in the morning practice but was bumped to fifth-fastest in the afternoon session.
Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa led the way in Friday MotoGP practice from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Pedrosa used the power of his Honda prototype to lap the circuit in a time of 1’39.783 which just quicker than factory Yamaha rider Ben Spies. Also of note was Pedrosa’s highest top speed of nearly 209 mph down the front straightaway.

"This afternoon the track was a little better than in the morning," said Pedrosa, who won here two years ago. "We were able to improve our lap times quite a lot and also try the hard tires, which worked much better than the soft specification we tried this morning. As we saw today, the times will keep dropping during the weekend with more rubber on the asphalt, so we have to continue working hard on the bike."

Spies teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, slotted into third position just ahead of Monster Tech 3 rider Andrea Dovizioso. The Repsol Honda ridden by Casey Stoner was next fastest. The Ducati’s of Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi were ninth and tenth fastest, respectively. Randy de Puniet set the fastest time amongst the quasi-production CRT machines.
