Blue Waves Campaign Yosemite Ride

Tuesday, March 18, 2014
Back in January we profiled the efforts of the Blue Waves Motorcycle Rally, a resource and fund-raising campaign for the park rangers of Lake Hovsgol National Park in Mongolia. Part of a larger effort by the Blue Waves Campaign, the Lake Hovsgol Conservancy and the Mongol Ecology Center, the Blue Waves Motorcycle Rally aims to provide motorcycles, gear and training to park rangers charged with protecting the vast area around Lake Hovsgol, one of 17 ancient lakes on Earth. Currently rangers have outdated equipment, if any at all, which makes it nearly impossible to effectively patrol the park and protect the pristine landscape as needed.

Progress has already been made and the Blue Waves board has secured a deal with Beta Motorcycles for machines to be delivered to the park rangers in April of 2014. The campaign continues to need support, however, to help cover costs of the motorcycles, gear and field equipment.

One way to help is to join in for a Ride to Yosemite, scheduled for March 29-30, 2014. The ride is being organized by Josh Prentiss, one of the riders committed to delivering resources to the park rangers, and will wind through the scenic back roads from San Francisco to Yosemite. There will be three support vehicles along for the ride, a trailer and a number of mechanics as well to help in the event of motorcycle issues along the way.

Participants will meet at Java House Restaurant at Pier 40 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco and will end at the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort. There are private rooms, dormitory-style single beds, group cabins, tent camping and more.

Once at Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort, Prentiss will give a brief presentation on the Lake Hovsgol effort. Following that a post-ride party will commence with music from the Gravel Spreaders, a San Francisco-based band that covers hard rock songs in a bluegrass style. The band Whisky in My Pocket will also be on hand to ensure the tunes are rockin’ all night long. Food and beverages are available for purchase on site and The Café at the Bug Resort features locally sourced game and fish, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. There will also be an auction with lots of riding gear and accessories up for grabs to the highest bidder. All proceeds go directly to the Lake Hovsgol Park Ranger support campaign.

If interested, call 1-866-826-7108 to reserve a space at Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain. Departure time from Java House Restaurant is 8:30 a.m. on March 29 and all participating riders will need to bring a $25 donation, a motorcycle/M1 driver’s license and proof of insurance.

The video below, created by Anton Berteaux, one of the riders set to deliver resources to the Lake Hovsgol Park Rangers, explains the Lake Hovsgoal campaign further. It’s also pretty funny. Bearteaux has set up an Indiegogo fund-raising campaign here to fund two motorcycles and gear. He also provides more information on the Blue Waves Campaign, and has some additional videos that are definitely worth checking out.
