Nobody likes dust, especially racers, off-road racers in particular. It is our nemesis, always working against our forward momentum on the course and threatening our safety. As nasty as it is, it is a part of off-roading that you must deal with. Recently a couple of YouTube vids caught one of the worst-case scenarios when the dust is so thick you can’t cut it with a samurai sword.

Check out this video of “The Doctor” Valentino Rossi behind the wheel of a Rally Car at the 2011 Monza Rally Show. There is not much to say except is there anything Rossi can’t do? I’m thinking no. Enjoy.

A couple of weeks ago I watched a video of French stunt rider Jorian Ponomareff drifting his sportbike around a coned obstacle course, and I was totally blown away. I have to admit I’ve probably watched that video a dozen times since then, and I am still amazed at his bike control. Earlier today I came across another video of Ponomareff doing the more traditional stunt maneuvers such as circle wheelies and stoppies.

Although rain was falling at the MotoUSA Southern California Headquarters, nothing would stop us from making noise for Marco Simoncelli. At 10:30 in the morning, for 58 seconds we revved our engines and smoked tires in a final farewell to Super Sic.

Fuel TV has been stepping up with some great shows and AMA Motocross Racing coverage as of late, and I am excited to see that the channel is growing after a bit of stagnation in content in the past. One series that I can’t wait to lay my eyes on is Drake’s Passage. Freestyler Drake McElroy is traveling the world on someone else’s dime, and Fuel is there to capture all the action.

Officer Donnie Williams has skills. Check out how he flies through the course at the Grand Prairie Police Motorcycle Rodeo. Although this is low speed event, the amount of control exhibited by the officers that compete at these events is impressive. I would love to take a crack at the course; I have a feeling at the end I would have a scraped up black and white bike and the cones would be scattered far and wide.

Last week I came across a video that shows the potential that we all have inside of us as riders, and has inspired me to try harder in all that I do, including riding. For the past few weeks I’ve been feeling a bit down on my motocross skills as I am not as fast as I used to be. I can’t push as hard as I used to, and sometimes even a medium sized double worries me. Am I just getting old or not trying?

As the summer months drag on I begin to long for the smooth flowing lines of my favorite riding spot, Glamis. With the temps reaching triple digits even after the sun goes down from May to the end of September, I’m forced to put away my dirt bike paddle tire and count the days until our first weekend outing of the season, which is usually mid-October.
