Chad Reed signing Ryan Villopoto? How's that for a coup!
Chad Reed admitted that he’s trying to get
Ryan Villopoto signed on to race for his TwoTwo Motorsports team in 2013. The 2012 Supercross champion is at the end of his current contract with Monster Energy Kawasaki, which makes him the hottest free agent heading into the new season, despite a second major knee injury.
"Ryan's contract is up and we're talking to him," Reed was quoted on
Fox Sports. "We really want to try and make it happen. He's a great kid and we've been teammates before.”
Reed has been monitoring Villopoto’s rehabilitation over the summer along with his own return to racing form. The Honda racer/team owner suffered a major crash with multiple injuries, including his own buggered knee. If the deal were to take place, TwoTwo Motorsports would have arguably the most powerful duo as Reed intends to continue his two-wheeled career.
"That was an unsuccessful run for both of us that year but we can make a good run for it and we can make it work,” he said of 2012 and beyond. “We'll see what happens, at this point it can go in any direction so we just hope that we're in the fight."
