Dallas 250 Supercross Results 2013

Saturday, February 16, 2013

The 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250 SX East riders got their first taste of this season’s competition during the showdown in Dallas on Saturday night. Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson came out on top, earning the win by more than five seconds over Rockstar Suzuki’s Blake Wharton in second. GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn rounded out the podium, taking his third-place finish after battling past a number of riders.

“This feels so good,” said Wilson. “It’s been 10 months waiting for that. I knew I needed to get the start, so I fought for it and it went well. I saw the leader and I knew I was good in the whoops, so I just went on the outside around him. He raced clean and I respect that. From there I just rode my own race.”

AG Motorsport’s Kyle Peters came flying off the start, claiming the lead briefly during the opening lap. Wilson was in hot pursuit though, trailing the Honda rider by fractions of a second until finally making the pass for the front as they headed into the second lap. Not long after, Wharton, who was running in third, also passed Peters and moved into the runner-up position.

Pushing hard from fourth, Honda rider Cole Thompson got the best of Peters as well a few laps later, taking third for a period before crashing hard after a mistake coming off a jump. Hahn slipped into fourth after Thompson went down and held steady there until the final laps of the race when he finally found a line past Peters for the rostrum.

"I feel good about it," Hahn said. "It's a new year, and everything's going forward. It feels so good to pay these guys back after sticking behind me after two really tough years. They never gave up hope on me, and I gave it my all this off-season."

Wilson’s teammate, Justin Hill, took fifth in his pro debut, followed by Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin in sixth. Musquin hit the dirt during the first lap and fell well outside the top-10. He fought back throughout the race though, getting to seventh-place with four laps remaining and making the move for sixth during the last minutes of competition.

Hahn's teammate, Zach Bell, had an extremely frustrating night, going down hard in his heat race and having to fight for a spot in the main in the LCQ. He went down again during the main-event and decided to pull out to protect his health for the remaining races in the season.

"I was in pain, for sure," Bell said. "My hands and wrist were hurting, and I could barely hang on. I got in the very last gate pick and just went for it. I ended up crashing again in the main, and I just pulled off. I need to be safe for next weekend and get through this season healthy."

Wilson now leads the way in overall points, with Wharton in second and Hahn in third.
