Daytona 250 Supercross Results 2013

Saturday, March 9, 2013
Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin achieved a long-sought milestone in his professional career, earning his first SX win in the United States at Daytona. The KTM ace had to fight early for position out front, but thanks to his smooth, consistent ride and the small mistakes of others, he ended the night over eight seconds ahead of second-place finisher, Wil Hahn of Geico Honda. MyPlash’s Jeremy Martin maintained an aggressive pace throughout the contest, allowing him to move into third in the final laps of the race.

“Obviously I had a lot of fun riding this track,” said Musquin. “I knew everyone was going to be fast so I stayed calm out front and tried to have fun. I am so happy to get this win and to also gain more confidence knowing that I was pulling away from them each lap.”

Off the start, Hahn’s teammate Zach Bell made a push for the lead but was quickly bested by Musquin in a deeply rutted switchback section. On the second lap, Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson moved into third and only a few turns later gained the runner-up spot after Bell hit the ground. Through the subsequent laps, Wilson closed in on Musquin and kept to the French rider’s lines, waiting for the opportunity to pass. Wilson then came down hard in the rhythm section and jarred his head, hard. He remained on the bike and continued to press on in second, but Musquin kept to his guns and opened up a gap that left him uncatchable.

Wilson’s misfortune gave Hahn the chance to close in and mid-race the two were neck-and-neck. Passes through each turn marked some of the most intense action of the 250 Supercross East series this year, but 10 laps in Hahn made a pass that stuck.

Martin was stalwart in fourth through the first half of the race and once Wilson fell to third the rookie was right there to challenge for the podium. The Yamaha rider made a block-pass on Wilson soon after and didn’t look back. Rockstar Suzuki’s Blake Wharton finished the night in fifth, followed by Wilson’s teammate, Justin Hill, in sixth. AG Motorsports’ Kyle Peters took seventh followed by maykers’ Zack Freeberg in eighth.

Hahn remains the overall points leader in the 250 SX East series, gaining four points on Wilson, who remains in second. Musquin sits third, 14 points behind Hahn and Wharton is an additional two points back in fourth.
