Las Vegas 450 Supercross Results 2013

Saturday, May 4, 2013
Even though he has the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross 450 championship in the bag, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto didn’t slow a bit in the season finale at Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas. The three-time title winner grabbed his 10th win of the season in Sin City, beating out Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey by 2.8 seconds at the checkers. Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps rounds out the podium, giving him a single point advantage over Dungey to remain second overall for the season.

Off the start it was RV’s teammate, Jake Weimer, who earned the holeshot and early lead. Within the opening laps Villopoto stormed ahead and took control of the front, sending Weimer back to deal with Dungey. On the following lap the KTM ace made it past Weimer as well and proceeded to pressure Villopoto as best as he could. RV never ran too far ahead of Dungey through the 20 lap contest, but #5 was also never able to make up enough ground to have a chance to pass.

“This is a great way to cap the season off,” said Villopoto. “We rebounded this year from a bad start at the season opener and won the title. There is no better way to end a season than like this.”

Millsaps recovered from a start that left him back in sixth-place to take fourth within the first five laps, getting past Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia and Two Two Motorsports’ Chad Reed. From there Millsaps zeroed-in on Weimer and one lap later had moved past the Kawasaki rider into third. Out front, Dungey and RV started to pull away and Millsaps lost any hope of getting into combat for the number one or two spots; at the finish the Suzuki rider had fallen over 30 seconds behind Dungey.

Weimer continued to slip back as Barcia pushed past for fourth mid-race, but a mistake soon after gave Weimer the chance to retaliate and regain the position. Barcia finished fifth and was followed by Reed in sixth. Hyper X's Weston Peick ended the night in seventh, followed by JGRMX’s Justin Brayton in eighth. Barcia's teammate, Trey Canard, had an issue mid-race and chucked his goggles, followed soon after by him pulling off track and out of competition.

Ryan Villopoto took his 10th win of the 2013 season in Vegas.
Ryan Dungey 5 and Jake Weimer 12 fighting for position in Las Vegas.
RV clinched the title in the previous round in Salt Lake City, so the real battle was for second overall between Dungey and Millsaps. DM18 held strong and got the job done, finishing runner-up in the championship for the second year in a row.
