Kid Rock played a rockin show at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip Monday night.
Fueled by a passing thunderstorm, a killer crowd, and the fact that CMT asked if he could tone down his act, Kid Rock was in rare form Monday Night as he brought the house down at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.
Kid Rocks high energy antics had em jumping at The Chip Monday night.
On rare occasion you get lucky to be a part of something special, something larger than life, to be a cell amongst cells that collectively create a whole. It happened a couple years back at Sturgis when Stevie Nicks sang “Rhiannon” with her black scarves whipping in the wind on a stormy night. The scenario repeated itself Monday night at the Kid Rock concert at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.

From the opening song until the final encore, Kid Rock was in rare form as he rapped, rocked, played piano and scratched on a turntable. With lightning strikes flashing against purple skies in the distant horizon, the curtain dropped and Kid Rock hopped as he broke out into the lyrics of “Devil Without a Cause.” The rapidly approaching storm would soon sweep overhead, dousing the crowd and band who defied Mother Nature by continuing to rock the house. Soon rain would be pouring down which only seemed to fuel Kid Rock’s energy even more. His “Rebel Soul” attitude filtered into the crowd who danced and sang along as he went through a long song list of hits.

Kid Rock was also riled up by the fact that CMT asked him if he could tone it down because it was filming a special, which he answered with a proverbial finger in the air as he beat the pulpit on politicians, guns, the Second Amendment and freedom. His rebellious attitude nonetheless was a big hit with the bikers in town for the 73rd annual Sturgis Rally.

He was a tour de force onstage as he changed costumes and the show shifted gears throughout the night to match his get-ups. Be it ballad or rapid-paced rap, Kid Rock collected himself before every song to assume the persona represented in verse. He didn’t just sing, he lived the songs. He shifted gears from melodic stints sitting at the piano to tearing it up on the turntable as he demonstrated he can scratch with the best of them.

It was a show to be remembered, the electrifying front man mesmerizing the raucous crowd with his talent who in turn revved the engines of their motorcycles in approval and shouted their appreciation. Between the band, the man, the crowd and the weather, it was the show of the week so far at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. We’ll have to see if Rob Zombie has what it takes to one-up him when he takes the stage Wednesday night.
