MCSS Holeshot Recap Thunder Valley 2013

Tuesday, May 28, 2013
The points battle is officially underway in the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Championship after the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross round at Thunder Valley. In the 450 class, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia got to the white line fastest in both motos while in the 250 class it was GEICO Honda’s Zach Osborne in Moto 1 and MyPlash’s Jeremy Martin in Moto 2.

Rules of the championship give one point to the rider that holeshots Moto 1 and two points in Moto 2. Should a rider take the holeshot in both motos, they’re awarded a bonus point. The rider with the most points at the end of the season gets a sizable bonus. In the 450 class, the payout will be $25,000 and in the 250’s the award is $15,000.

Barcia walked away with the full four points available for the round and is now tied for the lead with Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart.

"It's great to get both holeshots today," said Barcia. "My starts are something I've been working on a lot and the money that Motorcycle Superstore has put up gives me a lot of extra motivation to keep after it.

"I wish I could have converted those holeshots into wins today but I ended up third and fourth in the two motos for an overall finish of third place, so that's pretty decent. I'm definitely going to continue working on my starts because I want to win the holeshot title, and there are some other areas I need to work on also. I want some wins."

Osborne slipped outside the top-five soon after 250 Moto 1 started, but was able to hold on and finish sixth. He’s tied for third overall in the Motorcycle Superstore Holeshot Championship with Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett, who was fastest off the line in Moto 1 at Hangtown.

"You always want to get the holeshot because it sets up the rest of the race," Osborne said after Moto 1. "And now, with that money on the line, everyone is thinking about it that much more. Thanks to Motorcycle Superstore for putting that bonus in place.

"I felt really good in both motos today and the start in the first one was just perfect. I wanted to double-up and get the bonus point but it was really crowded up front. I'm still really happy with the way I rode overall so we'll take this momentum and go to Tennessee and try to keep it up."

Martin nabbed two points for his start in Moto 2 at Thunder Valley and is tied for the lead in the 250 class holeshot championship with Osborne’s teammate, Zach Bell.
