Barcia Extends MCSS Holeshot Points Lead

Sunday, June 2, 2013
Rising motocross superstar Justin Barcia moved into sole possession of first place in the Motorcycle-Supserstore.com Holeshot Championship standings with a great start in Moto 2 at Saturday's Built Ford Tough Tennessee National at Muddy Creek Raceway.

Barcia, who led the way into the first turn in both 450cc motos last weekend in Denver, ceded the first holeshot of the day to Ryan Villopoto, but responded with a great reaction in the afternoon race aboard his Muscle Milk Honda CRF450R. He now has six points overall, two more than second-place James Stewart. Villopoto entered the hunt with the one point he earned in Moto 1 on his Monster Energy Kawasaki KX450F.

"I've gotten three of the last four holeshots and that's not too bad at all," said Barcia, who finished the day in second place overall after two runner-up results. "I've been working really hard on my starts and it's cool to see that hard work pay off.

"I'm stoked to be in the points lead by myself. The bonus money that Motorcycle Superstore puts up for this deal makes me that much more focused on every start. It's like a little extra incentive, and I thank them for it."

Points for the lucrative Motorcycle-Supserstore.com Holeshot Championship are earned in each of the 24 motos on the outdoor schedule. Riders in both 450 and 250 competition are eligible. The Moto 1 holeshot is worth one point, the Moto 2 holeshot is worth two points, and any rider that sweeps both holeshots at the same event gets another bonus point. At the end of the year, the top points earner in 450 competition pockets $25,000, with their 250 counterpart earning $15,000.

The early-season parity in the 250 class remains with GEICO Honda teammates Justin Bogle and Eli Tomac splitting Saturday's two motos. There have now been six different holeshot winners in the first six 250 motos of the year.

Since Tomac earned the second moto points on his GEICO Honda CRF250R, he is now in a three-way tie with Zach Bell and Jeremy Martin with a total of two points for the season. Bogle, Blake Baggett and Zach Osborne are close behind with one point each.

"It's great to finally get a decent start," said Tomac, who like Barcia finished second on the day with finishes of fourth and first. "The GEICO Honda hooked up real nice and the guys from Dunlop gave us the perfect tires. I got that holeshot and just stayed out front the whole race. The holeshot was the difference.

"The points are really close and I know everyone's talking about the money Motorcycle Superstore has posted. We all want that check at the end of the year. Hopefully, I get two more great starts in High Point and take the lead."

The Lucas Oil Motocross Championship heads north for next Saturday's GEICO High Point National in Pennsylvania.
