Road America SuperBike Race 2 Results 2013

Sunday, June 2, 2013
Josh Hayes swept the AMA SuperBike class at Road America, leading all but two laps on the 4.05-mile long circuit. Martin Cardenas repeated his performance as well, finishing second. Hayes’ teammate Josh Herrin improved his results from Day 1, grabbing the final spot on the podium.

On the start Cardenas jumped out in front of the Yamaha duo, but Hayes immediately put the pressure on the Columbian. After two laps of holding off the defending champ, Cardenas was beat by Hayes going into Turn 1 on Lap 3. From there Hayes put the hammer down and pulled away from the Suzuki and Number-2 Yamaha. At the checkers, he enjoyed what looked to be a comfortable lead.

“That was a really hard race,” said Hayes. “Martin was riding incredible.. I got a little gap, and then it seemed like he started clawing his way back. I was getting pretty nervous because I didn’t know if I could go a while lot faster. I was trying pretty hard.”

Cardenas earned the lead in the points with two second-place finishes this weekend, sitting 13 points ahead of Josh Herrin.

“I got a good start; I was leading for like two laps and Hayes passed me,” commented Cardenas. “He turned out a couple of very fast laps gapped me a little bit. At the end, like maybe the last six laps, I was gaining a little bit, every time, every time. Today I’m happier today than yesterday, much better race. We’re a little but closer and that’s the idea.”

Josh Herrin was sure not to repeat his mistake from the day before and road a solid race for his third place 8.1 seconds adrift. It was another 11 seconds back to Roger Hayden in fourth, and Danny Eslick rounded out the top five.
