AMA Pro Laguna Seca Friday Results 2013

Friday, July 19, 2013
AMA Pro Road Racing kicked-off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with qualifying sessions in GoPro Daytona SportBike and Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport. National Guard SuperBike riders had their first practice during the day as well, with their qualifying rounds scheduled for Saturday and the main event coming Sunday. The AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series won’t be competing at Laguna and the remaining classes have just one race each at Laguna to gather points toward this year’s title.

In the SuperBike practice session, National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Hayden posted the fastest time, one-tenth of a second ahead of reigning champion Josh Hayes of Monster Graves Yamaha. Hayes’ teammate, Josh Herrin, scored third followed by title contender Martin Cardenas of Yoshimura Suzuki in fourth.

Hayes is now in the points lead and has yet to be beaten when his machinery is fully functional. He scored his first ever win at Laguna in 2012 and will be fighting to notch a second this time around. Herrin, Hayden and Cardenas have challenged the Mississippi native at times this year, and each has a positive past experience at Laguna to draw from, so expect the action to be close. Herrin took his first ever AMA Pro victory at the circuit, Cardenas took his first career pole position there and Hayden earned a top-10 result while competing in MotoGP.

Daytona SportBike qualifying saw current points leader Cameron Beaubier of Yamama Extended Service post the fastest time of the day, followed by RoadRace Factory’s Jake Gagne in second and Latus Motors Racing’s Jason DiSalvo in third. Beaubier’s teammate, Garrett Gerloff, finished fourth-fastest followed by Gagne’s teammate, JD Beach in fifth.

In Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport, RoadRace Factory’s Tomas Puerta finished in the number one spot, followed by Baby Appleseed’s Jeffery Tigert in second and California Superbike School’s Joe Roberts in third. Roberts made waves during his first outing in AMA Pro Racing at Barber, sweeping the weekend from the first practice through Race 2 on Sunday. National Guard’s Corey Alexander posted the fourth-fastest time followed by Z2 Racing’s Cameron Gish in fifth.

The single SuperSport race of the weekend is scheduled for Saturday, with SportBike and SuperBike on deck for Sunday.
