will return to MotoGP. The hell-just-froze-over headline is real, sort of. The retired SBK champion will test ride the Pramac Racing Ducati at the upcoming two-day Mugello test. The temporary riding gig will be aboard Ben Spies' GP13, as the Texan continues to rehab his bum shoulder.
Biaggi retired from professional racing
at the end of last season, following his second World Superbike title-winning campaign with Aprilia. He also earned four 250 GP titles for Aprilia.
The Pramac Racing announcement confirming the Biaggi test ride states: “At the moment, this is the extent of the arrangement, and Ducati Test Team rider Michele Pirro will substitute Spies on the Pramac Racing Team bike at the Catalan Grand Prix on 16 June in Barcelona.”
Biaggi last raced Grand Prix in 2005 with the factory Repsol Honda MotoGP squad. The Italian rider left MotoGP amidst controversy, after an acrimonious departure from the HRC team reputedly barred the door for any Honda in the GP series. After no GP rides materialized, Biaggi sat out the 2006 season. The Italian’s career revived the following season in SBK, where he campaigned from 2007-2012.
