MotoGP Misano Test Results 2013

Monday, September 16, 2013
Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez posted the fastest lap of the day during a post-race MotoGP test at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The rookie rider notched a 1’33.264 on his 70th lap of the day. Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo finished second-fastest in the test while Lorenzo’s teammate, Valentino Rossi, ended the day in third.

Marquez and his teammate, Dani Pedrosa, spent part of the day testing the latest iteration of the 2014 machine with the new Magneti Marelli ECU. They also tested a new swingarm and new rear shocks on the current 2013 RC213V.

“The day went well and we tried out a lot of things with the setup –above all the geometry– and we made considerable improvements,” said Marquez. “We've also gathered some useful data, so this test has been very useful ahead of the five remaining races. We also rode next year's prototype, which I feel fairly comfortable with already. We've worked well and the important thing is that we have a good foundation.”

Lorenzo and Rossi worked to dial-in the 2014 prototype engine and refine settings on the 2013 M1. Satellite Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech 3 worked to improve braking performance while his teammate, Bradley Smith, tested a new riding position to help improve his overall balance on the M1.

Ducati’s Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso also participated in the test with a focus on improving electronics settings and braking performance. Energy T.I. Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone also worked to improve braking and he was joined by newcomer to the Pramac garage, Yonny Hernandez. Hernandez will take over the Ignite Pramac Racing seat left empty by the injured Ben Spies and recently filled by Ducati test rider, Michele Pirro. Hernandez will make his race debut with Ignite during the upcoming round at Aragon.

Pirro was on track as well, working with the Ducati test team to dial in the 2014-spec engine and software.

The Suzuki MotoGP effort also tested at Misano, with Randy de Puniet at the helm as the primary test rider. Nobuatsu Aoki also turned laps for Suzuki as the team worked to further chassis development. Though they continued to utilize the Mitsubishi ECU in Italy, work is being done in Japan with the spec Magneti Marelli system. De Puniet recorded the 13th-fastest time of the day, a 1’35.097. Suzuki plans to remain at the circuit for two additional days to continue development.

Go & Fun Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista continued testing his Showa front forks and Nissin brakes while LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl worked on geometry and suspension settings with his RC213V.
