Husqvarna Plans to Race Moto3 in 2014

Thursday, November 21, 2013

English rider Danny Kent will be the lead rider for the newly formed Husqvarna Moto3 factory team.
Husqvarna has announced plans to compete in next season’s Moto3 World Championship. It’s going racing as a full-factory effort under the team name Red Bull Husqvarna Factory Racing.

The lead rider will be England’s Danny Kent along with Finnish rider Niklas Ajo. The youngster’s father, Aki, will play the role of team manager.

“After our strong commitment to off-road competition, entering the Moto3 World Championship is a new milestone in the history of Husqvarna,” told Pit Beirer, head of Husqvarna’s motorsport effort. “With the full support of Mr. [Stefan] Pierer and the Husqvarna Motorcycles Board of Directors, we are extremely excited about this new project. We will bring the best people and all the necessary energies together to give the project the success it deserves.”

The team will compete on competition-style 250cc Single-cylinder four-stroke sportbikes with the minimum total weight for rider and machine being 326 lbs. This platform replaced the older-style 125cc two-stroke class that was phased out two years ago.

“Running Husqvarna in the Moto3 World Championship will bring considerable interest to both the category and the brand,” adds Stefan Pierer, CEO of Husqvarna new parent company, KTM AG. “With its history of 110 years the Husqvarna brand is highly known throughout the world of racing. The Moto3 stage will give a further boost to grow Husqvarna stronger than ever. We’re looking forward to see great competition next year. ”
