Doriano Romboni
Doriano Romboni passed away after crashing during practice at the Sic Supermoto Day at the Latina circuit in Italy.
The annual Sic Supermoto Day was set to take place the weekend of November 30-December 1, 2013 to honor the memory of the late Marco Simoncelli, who died during the 2011 Malaysian GP.

Proceedings were halted, however, at the Latina circuit in Italy after Doriano Romboni suffered a crash during the second practice session that required he be evacuated by helicopter to the Santa Maria Goretti hospital. Romboni was struck by another rider in the incident, according to reports, and eventually succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon. Romboni was 44 years old.

The Italian rider had six race wins in 125cc and 250cc competition from 1989 to 1995 and in 1996 moved to the 500cc class, where he raced until 1998. Following his GP career Romboni contested a handful of races in the World Superbike Championship in 1999, 2000 and again in 2004.

The Italian Motorcycle Federation decided to cancel the Sic Supermoto Day out of respect for Romboni and his family. Italian Motorcycle Federation President Paolo Sesti offered these remarks to MotoGP.com, “"After the tragic accident which claimed the life of Doriano Romboni we have cancelled the event as a sign of mourning and respect for Doriano and his family, to whom we show our support at this difficult time. In losing Doriano we lose a generous rider, a highly valued personality and a great coach, who was dearly loved and appreciated by everyone involved in international motorcycling."
