Husqvarna has been absent from American Supercross and Motocross Racing for over a decade, but when the iconic Swedish brand was re-introduced under the KTM corporate umbrella many wondered how long it would be until a factory or satellite team would be fielded. Friday evening Husqvarna announced it would indeed be returning to Supercross and Motocross, with two 250cc riders and two 450cc riders racing under the colors of the Rockstar Racing Husqvarna Factory Team.
"With racing as one of the core values of Husqvarna, of course we need to be in the top echelon of our sport," commented President Jon-Erik Burleson. "This has been one of our major goals from the start, and an important step in elevating Husqvarna back to the leadership technology it once stood for."
2014 AMA 250 West Supercross champ Jason Anderson will be making the jump to the 450 class, and as of now, is the only rider officially announced to the team. Anderson will be heading to Europe after the 2014 AMA Motocross series, to race the Stockholm Supercross followed by the Monster Energy Cup to tune up for the upcoming 2015 SX season.
We sat down with Anderson for a few minutes to chat with him about his ride on the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Team.
So how long have you known you’d be racing on the Husqvarna for 2015?
“Probably for about a month or so now. I did it just before Houston Supercross, so I guess a month and a half, two months.”
Have you been riding the bike much?
“I’ve ridden the bike maybe about four times, but that’s about it. I’m still trying to focus on the 250 deal.”
Does the Husky feel familiar to the KTM?
“It’s hard to say since I’m riding the 250 for KTM. It’s a steel frame so it feels similar. But I’m excited to race the 450; I feel like it’s a good 450 bike for sure.”
Husqvarna has a great history in the early days of American motocross. How does it feel to be the first guy tapped to start up the effort again in the U.S.?
“I think it’s really cool. I think it will be good for my career if we can be successful on it. I definitely think the bike is good. I think its capable of doing damage in Supercross and the outdoors. I feel like I can be the guy to put it on the box. Hopefully I can start off my 450 career with some good results, and I think the Husqvarna will help me achieve those results. “
