AMA Harley-Davidson Barber Results 2014

Sunday, June 22, 2014
Defending AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series champion Steve Rapp of Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson scored his first race win of 2014 at Barber Motorsports Park. Rapp trounced the field, finishing over 11 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Ruthless Racing’s Danny Eslick. . Rapp’s teammate, Ben Carlson, rounds out the podium.

Rapp kicked things off from pole position and had an early battle with KWR’s Kyle Wyman for the front, but within the opening corners Rapp solidified his place at the head of the pack. Entering Lap 2 Rapp had a multiple bike-length gap on the riders behind, which he’d stretch to the checkers.

Behind, the battle for second was heated between Wyman, Eslick, Josh Chisum Racing’s Tyler O’Hara, Carlson and Six-Four Motorsports’ Shane Narbonne. Positions changed hands numerous times, with Eslick, O’Hara and Wyman each spending time in the runner-up spot. As the race wound down Wyman was fighting to climb back up from fourth when his bike wobbled entering Turn 1. He was forced to stand the bike up and run off track, where he suffered a small high-side which ended his day.

Eslick and O’Hara continued the fight for second, though Carlson and Narbonne were both keeping well within reach of a podium finish as well. Carlson made his move on O’Hara during the final laps to take the final step by a fraction of a second. O’Hara crossed the line in fourth while Narbonne claimed fifth.

Folsom Harley-Davidson’s Gage McAllister finished in sixth followed by Suburban Motors’ Nick Hansen in seventh and Trev Deeley Motorcycles’ Darren James in eighth.

O’Hara continues to lead the Harley-Davison Series points standings, keeping just a single point advantage over second-placed rider, Eslick. Carlson sits third followed by McAllister in fourth and Hansen in fifth. Rapp enjoys a significant jump up the ranks following his win after two disappointing rounds, now sitting eighth overall.
