RedBud 250 Motocross Results 2014

Saturday, July 5, 2014
Yamalube Yamaha Star Racing’s Jeremy Martin scored the 250 overall win at RedBud, going 1-2. Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin makes his first overall podium of the year in second-place with a 4-3 result. Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson rounds out the rostrum in third.

Moto 1

GEICO Honda’s Matt Bisceglia ran out front with Valli Yamaha’s Christophe Pourcel and Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett trailing close behind at the start of Moto 1. Pourcel took over the lead during the initial laps and was soon pursued by Martin, up the ranks from around fourth early on. Baggett slipped back a bit as Bisceglia’s teammate, Justin Bogle, moved ahead as well.

Pourcel kept Martin stuck in the runner-up spot for the early minutes of the moto, but then the French rider’s bike got a little unsettled in a tricky right-hander, sending him to the ground. Martin flew past to take over the lead. Further back, Martin’s teammate, Cooper Webb, also crashed, setting him well outside the top-10.

Up front, Martin worked to break away from the field but Baggett had turned on the jets and was hunting down the leader. Bogle and Musquin waged a spirited battle for third-place while Baggett’s teammate, Dean Wilson, fought with Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely for a top-five spot. Wilson and Seely’s back-and-forth led to both riders trying to squeeze into the same line mid-way through the race, sending both to the ground. They quickly returned to action and had only lost a few positions in the incident.

Baggett reached Martin late in the race and challenged hard for the win, but Martin pinned the throttle and kept far enough ahead to claim victory. Anderson was also making up ground late in the game, getting into the Bogle/Musquin battle for third. Musquin lost ground when he somehow got his leg stuck between this rear tire and the rear fender, requiring course officials to help him get unstuck. After that Bogle sufferend an off briefly, giving Anderson enough room to slip ahead for third-place.

Musquin crossed the line in fourth followed by Bogle in fifth. Cycletrader.com’s Alex Martin finished in sixth ahead of Smartop’s Kyle Cunningham in seventh and Seely in eighth. Wilson finished in ninth ahead of his teammate, Justin Hill, in 10th.

Moto 2

Rockstar Energy Racing’s Joey Savatgy got the early lead in Moto 2 followed by Bogle, Martin and Wilson. Bogle moved past the KTM rider early in Lap 2 while Martin and Wilson were joined by Hill and Webb in the fight for the lead. Bogle held steady out front while Webb made his way up to third behind Martin. The three riders then waged a serious battle for the front, at times running three-wide. Bogle maintained his advantage well, blocking pass attempts from both Yamaha riders for a number of minutes. The Honda rider’s luck ran out though coming off a jump after close to 10 minutes of racing. He got out of line a bit on the landing and couldn’t help from running off track, which caused him to lose the front end and go down. Webb and Martin narrowly missed running Bogle over as they landed, but both avoided the downed rider and moved into first and second.

Webb got past Martin for the lead and the two stayed close the remainder of the race. On the final lap Martin got within striking distance but couldn’t pull off a pass to make it a double.

Behind, Musquin improved his result to finish third followed by Anderson in fourth and Wilson in fifth. Seely finished sixth trailed by Baggett in seventh. Baggett got a terrible start in Moto 2, lapping back in 15th during the opening lap, and ran out of time before he could get any closer to the leaders.

Hill finished in eighth ahead of Alex Martin in ninth and Savatagy in 10th.

Martin gets a bit of breathing room in the points lead, leaving RedBud 23 points ahead of Webb in second. Baggett sits third followed by Bogle in fourth and Musquin in fifth.
