Budds Creek 250 Motocross Results 2014

Saturday, July 12, 2014
Monster Energy Kawaski’s Blake Baggett proved to be top-dog in the 250 class at Budds Creek, going 3-1 for the overall win. Current points leader Jeremy Martin of Yamalube Yamaha Star Racing finished 2-2 for the runner-up spot followed by Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson, who went 1-7. Anderson’s victory in Moto 1 marks his first ever professional outdoor Nationals win.

Moto 1

GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle led the field through the opening turns after scoring the holeshot, but had Valli Yamaha’s Christophe Pourcel and Anderson close behind in second and third. Anderson had found his groove early on, having finished fastest in both practice sessions earlier in the day, and was breathing down the French rider’s neck for second-place when Pourcel bobbled on a rut, allowing Anderson to slip past. Bogle had opened a slight gap but was still in sight and soon Anderson was challenging the Honda’s rear tire.

With about 24 minutes remaining in the moto the KTM ace finally found a line past Bogle for the lead, and from there he started to build a gap that would grow to over eight seconds by the half-way point. Behind, Martin was trying desperately to find a way ahead of the hard-to-pass Pourcel, which he finally did midway through. Martin kept the throttle pinned to and caught Bogle a few minutes after moving into third. Bogle put up a good fight but Martin’s pace proved to be too much.

Further back in the ranks Baggett was coming on like a freight train, showing his late moto strength in the hot and humid conditions, weaving his way up from outside the top-five early on to a battle with Bogle for third. Bogle made a slight mistake near the end of the moto and Baggett blew past. The Kawasaki ace closed in on Martin while the points leader cut Anderson’s lead to almost nothing as the race came to a close.

On the final lap Martin had Anderson in sight and Baggett was nearly on top of Martin as the three riders pushed to the limit for the advantage. In the end Anderson fended off any attacks from behind to take his first ever outdoor National moto win.

Bogle trailed the front runners by more than 24 seconds at the finish to take fourth, with Martin’s teammate, Cooper Webb coming across the line in fifth. Webb got a bad start and had to battle up the ranks throughout, getting ahead of sixth-place finisher Pourcel late in the moto. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson finished in seventh followed by Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin in eighth.

Moto 2

A number of riders, including Musquin, Wilson and Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely got trapped in an opening turn pile-up. Martin narrowly escacped being collected in the chaos and powered to the front followed by Pourcel in second. Baggett got a strong start and had moved into third within the first five minutes, getting ahead of Anderson and Webb, who were battling for fourth.

Martin was stretching a gap while Baggett struggled to find a way pass Pourcel, the two riders keeping close through the first half of the moto. BB picked up the pace and was aided in getting to the runner-up spot when Pourcel bobbled slightly, but Martin had put more than six seconds between himself and the field.

Baggett made short work of Martin’s advantage, closing in on the points leader within three laps and making the pass for the front in the rollers just before the finish line. From there the Kawasaki ace was unstoppable, finishing close to 15 seconds ahead of Martin at the checkers.

Webb lost too much time early in the moto and was unable to close up on Pourcel by the finish, crossing the line in fourth. Bogle prevailed in an exciting battle with Anderson for fifth while in the latter stages, Baggett’s teammate Justin Hill also made it past Anderson to finish sixth. The Moto 1 winner took seventh followed by teammates Jessy Nelson and Seely in eighth and ninth, respectively.

Martin holds on to the points lead through another round, sitting 27 points ahead the new second-place rider, Baggett. Webb drops to third followed by Bogle in fourth and Pourcel in fifth.
