Spring Creek 250 Motocross Results 2014

Saturday, July 19, 2014
Yamalube Yamaha Star Racing’s Jeremy Martin took the 250 overall win at his home track with a 1-2 result. Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin put up one of his best finishes of the season, going 2-4 at Spring Creek for second overall. Martin’s teammate, Cooper Webb, overcame a Moto 1 set-back to win Moto 2 and finish third for the day.

Moto 1

Martin made the most of his home field advantage in Moto 1, scoring the win by more than 10 seconds ahead of Musquin in second.

At the start it was Oakley Bomb Award winner Christophe Pourcel of Valli Yamaha who took the early lead, followed by GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle and Martin in third. A big pile-up occurred after the gate dropped, leaving a number of riders, including Rockstar KTM’s Jason Anderson and Smartop’s Kyle Cunningham, on the ground scrambling to collect their bikes and return to action.

Martin wasted no time in picking off the two riders ahead of him, gaining the lead in the opening laps with Pourcel trailing in second and Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson in third. Bogle lost ground after his impressive start, dropping to fifth during the initial stages of the race.

Pourcel kept close to Martin for a number of laps but the Minnesota native would not be caught, eventually stretching a sizable gap on the field to take his seventh moto win of the season.

Musquin, who’d slipped into fourth at the outset, waged a long battle with Wilson for third, the two going back and forth a number of times in pursuit of a podium finish. The KTM ace had a little bit extra at the end as well, closing in on Pourcel and taking second in the final stages of the race.

Wilson’s teammate, Blake Baggett, scored fourth after an impressive come-from-behind performance after yet another bad start left him lapping in 20th during the opening rotation. Wilson held on to finish in fifth followed by Bogle in sixth and Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely in seventh. Anderson’s teammate, Joey Savatgy, took eighth ahead of Webb in ninth.
Webb was fighting hard early on for a shot at the podium, but while attempting a move on Bogle for fifth during the initial laps he went down after clipping the Honda’s rear tire. Webb struggled for a moment to get the bike fired again and lost a number of positions in the incident.

Moto 2

Webb took the checkers in Moto 2 ahead of Martin in second and Anderson in third.

Cycletrader.com’s Alex Martin, brother to Jeremy, got off to one of his best starts of the season, trailing Pourcel in second through the opening turns. Baggett, Bogle and Webb were in the running for a top-three position during the initial laps as well, and the opening shuffle saw Baggett and Bogle get ahead of Alex Martin into second and third, with Webb gaining the advantage on A-Mart soon after for fourth-place.

Baggett put some serious pressure on Pourcel for the lead during the initial stages, but then suffered an off which set him back outside the top-10. Bogle moved to the front after Baggett’s crash followed closely by Webb. Jeremy Martin was also pushing up the ranks, settling into third as the race reached its mid-point.

Webb finally got past Bogle for the lead, and later Bogle was forced to pull out of the contest after an off left him down and in need of attention from the medical staff. Baggett was trying to make up the ground he lost but was forced to pull out of the race as well, facing technical issues late in the game.

Martin pushed hard to close the gap on Webb during the final laps, but Webb had built a large enough gap to manage his pace to the checkers.

Anderson was well outside the top-five during the opening laps but fought his way up the ranks for a place on the podium, crossing nearly five seconds ahead of Musquin in fourth. Wilson finished in fifth followed by Pourcel in sixth and Alex Martin in seventh.

Martin holds on to the overall points lead, sitting 43 points ahead of Webb with four more stops to go before the season’s conclusion. Baggett is third followed by Pourcel in fourth and Musquin in fifth.
