Washougal 450 Motocross Results 2014

Saturday, July 26, 2014
Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey doubled-up at Washougal, taking his first 1-1 result of the season. GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac finished second overall going 2-2 followed by Dungey’s teammate, Ken Roczen, in third going 3-3.

Moto 1

Dungey scored the Moto 1 win in commanding fashion, beating Tomac by over 13 seconds at the checkers. Roczen crossed the line in a lonely third, over 10 seconds behind the Honda rider.

Dungey got to the head of the pack on the initial lap, and would hold there to the checkers. JGRMX’s Justin Brayton got a strong start as well and lapped in the number two position early on, but lost his spot to Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard by Lap 2. Roczen battled his way up the ranks from fifth to settle into third during the early stages, finally passing Canard near the fifth lap for second-place.

Meanwhile, Tomac was clawing his way up the field after a poor start left him outside the top-10. The Colorado native charged hard and reached third-place by Lap 6. During the latter portion of the race Tomac closed in on Roczen, making the pass for second late in the game and from there he opened a gap on the German to the finish.

Canard held steady in fourth, fending off pressure from Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe, who finished in fifth. BTO Sports’ Andrew Short took sixth followed by RCH Racing’s Weston Peick in seventh and Brayton in eighth. Canard’s teammate, Fredrick Noren, continued to improve his showing in the American outdoors, taking ninth, followed by Tomac’s teammate, Christian Craig, in 10th.

Moto 2

Dungey made it a clean sweep with another dominant performance in Moto 2, outpacing Tomac by more than eight seconds. Roczen retained the overall points lead with another third-place result.

Off the start, Brayton was strong once again but Dungey powered up the ranks to grab the top-spot before the end of Lap 1. Metcalfe dispatched Brayton quickly after Dungey’s move to grab second-place while behind, Short and Tomac were lapping in fourth and fifth. Roczen, on the other hand, was fighting to recover from a bad start before the front-runners stretched too far ahead. The German’s poor start was nothing compared to Canard’s early bad luck, which saw the Oklahoma native hit the ground early on. After the incident Canard had to stand just off track until the tightly packed field passed before he could right his downed machine.

Up front, Dungey was pulling away from the field while Tomac gained position, settling into second-place within the opening minutes. Roczen continued to charge hard as well, gaining the final podium position mid-race.

Metcalfe held to fourth to the finish followed by Short in fifth and Peick in sixth. Noren grabbed his best result of the year in seventh followed by Brayton in eighth and Weeck Racing’s Tommy Weeck in ninth. Peer Brothers Racing’s Tommy Hahn took 10th ahead of Canard in 11th.

Roczen leaves Washougal with his points lead intact, but Dungey is closing in, now just 14 points behind in second-place with three rounds remaining. Canard sits third followed by Metcalfe in fourth and Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart in fifth.
