Marquez Breaks Leg Riding Dirt Track

Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will miss the upcoming pre-season test at Sepang after breaking his leg. The Repsol Honda rider fractured his right fibula during a dirt track training session near Barcelona.


A team press release announcing the injury states that Marquez was taken to the Universitario Quirón Dexeus Hospital for evaluation. After an X-Ray and CT scan of Marquez’s injury, Dr. Xavier Mir determined: “The results showed no ligament damage or dislocation and no need to proceed with surgery. I expect he will need three to four weeks to fully recover”.

Said Marquez of his training accident: “It was a really unfortunate accident that could happen to anyone at anytime. I was rushed to hospital and Dr. Mir treated me, thankfully there was no ligament damage and it seems like a clean break.”

The Repsol Honda PR reports Marquez has already started the rehabilitation process with magnetic therapy. He will be unable to bear weight on the leg for two weeks, and with thus miss the upcoming Sepang test and may miss the final pre-season test at Phillip Island. However, the team expects a full recovery for Marquez to begin his MotoGP title defense at the March 23 opener at Qatar.
