2014 MotoGP Qatar in Photos

The opening round of the 2014 MotoGP World Championship in Qatar was a thrilling start to the season, from NGM Mobile Forward Racing's Aleix Espargaro's timesheet attack in practice to the final lap battle of Movistar Yamaha's Valentino Rossi and Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez. Aleix Espargaro was fastest through all three practice sessions.

Nicky Hayden took 10th in Free Practice 1 in Qatar. Marc Marquez returned after six weeks off the bike  following a broken leg he suffered in the preseason  looking for speed here in Free Practice 1 in Qatar.

Jorge Lorenzo was not pleased with the new 2014 Bridgestone rear tire in Qatar.

Valentino Rossi started work for the opening round of the 2014 MotoGP season during Free Practice 1 in Qatar. Dani Pedrosa put up the sixth-fastest time in Free Practice 1 in Qatar.

Jorge Lorenzo (99) led through the opening turns in Qatar, but overestimated his grip and suffered a big off in the first lap and subsequent DNF.

Following Jorge Lorenzos crash  Stefan Bradl took over the lead in Qatar. Valentino Rossi  46  led the MotoGP race in Qatar for a number of laps.

Ducatis Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow finished fifth and sixth  respectively  in Qatar. Bradley Smith was on pace to earn a top-five result early on  but suffered a crash in the final laps.

The lead pack in Qatar remained four-strong until the final laps.


Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez waged a fierce battle for the lead in the final laps.
