MC USA Slides

Hi fellas,

I love most of the pieces on this site, especially the video quality and production value has improved a lot recently. Cheers for that!
All in all I got my share of entertainment and bike porn pics since I started reading the site in 2006.

I have some questions related to most recent articles I've seen here. It seems some of the boys have a very fine way of testing the slipper clutch on the new superbike by kicking the back end out in corners. My questions are about this: how is that done and how dangerous is the little stunt considering they have been performed on streets as well? Is it just rolling off the throttle? That seems a bit counter intuitive.

Now I have a bike without a slipper clutch and am not getting one soon. I also have no experience with slipper clutches on bikes other than what I read in the press. Nor would I want to try this any time soon. It's just this seems like one of the most curious stunts you can do and it defenitely peaked my interest.

Sorry if it is in the wrong end of the forum. Please move to the proper section if necessary.
Thanks!

I own a 2002 Fireblade and love every 10 year old little bit on it. Except the tires... those were changed back in '03.

Hmm... I guess I haven't noticed these slides you are talking about. However, my bike has a slipper clutch and I've never had that happen to me. But then again I haven't tried. I'm guessing that a downshift in the middle of a quick turn could cause that. I try to have my gear selected before entering a turn myself. ;-)

Yeah, I like to be in the proper gear for the corner too :).

In this video here http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/1113/Motorcycle-Video/2011-Yamaha-YZF-R1-Street-Comparison-Video.aspx at 1:10 you can see the perfect example. As well as on lots of photos. Even the Fireblade commercial before the video has one. At first I thought it was just lots of balls and a throttle power slide. But in the video you can clearly hear he is off the power.

Yeah I see what you mean. I don't think a slipper clutch was the cause of that as it the squeal sound was too stretched out. I could be mistaken, though!
