I'm lucky in many ways, and I'm honestly a very very wealthy man. I'll bug out for a couple of days and a little absence will make hearts grow fond. We'll text, send phone pix. She'll send vids of the grandkids playing and maybe some other stuff :-),,, she is a G-milf after all. Good times, looking forward to it. Have to scheduled. April or May? Hmmmm...
I've never gotten monkey butt. 600-700 mile days no problem. I get a little sore in the back, but no chafing. Good times.

April? May? I was favoring April, but with the crazy weather it's anyone's guess which one would be better. I haven't really been out that way so I don't have much input for you in terms of must sees. I've always wanted to go see where they make Louisville slugger bats. And you mentioned passing through Alabama, so perhaps a stop at Barber motorsports park might be in order to check out the museumand ther track. And I hear the Ozark mountains are a sight to behold in Spring. Time to break out the old road atlas and see what they say! Just being on the road is gonna be good, Casper. I'm hoping you will chronicle your adventure a bit so we can share the experience.
Are you going to try and plan things out or just wing it? Sometimes just wingin' it can be the most interesting...

Ditto what he said about Barber Motorsports park. If you have never been and your route takes you close to Birmingham then go. Does not matter what is going on at the track, if you stop at the museum you better plan on being there awhile. Kamo can testify.

More Fun Roads
STL is a great city with lots to see, if you like.
I suggest riding South from STL to MEM stretching to the West and get in touch with the Ozark Mountains. There are plenty of good roads in Southern MO and into AR. You could play all day in this area.
And we are not too far off, so consider a night with a bonfire, some beer, coyote howling at our humble ranch.

As far as your route, back in '05 I drove from Birmingham to Memphis on US 78 (which is now apparently Interstate 22.) Very nice semi-twisty road through the rolling hills of the Southwestern Appalachians (I had no idea the Appalachians stretched all the way into Mississippi!)
Probably not as much fun now that it's Interstate, so I'd look at US highway 72 from Memphis to Corinth, MS, to Muscle Shoals, Huntsville and Scottsboro, AL, then up to Chattanooga, TN. Should be gorgeous that time of year.

If you go through Chattanooga, gotta give the nod to Suck creek road, nice. Just outside of Chattanooga Signal mountain area.
Apologies for the music, its the only vid on the tube I could find that went through the sections I like.

stl to memphis on highway 55 has got to be one of the most boring rides one can take. pretty much straight all the way and nothing really to see honestly. You should look at the side roads. There are some fun roads on either side of 55. you may have to jump on and off of 55, but staying just on 55.....not so much fun.

My suggestion is to stay in the Mississippi River Valley until Natchez, Mississippi – that's 300 miles south of Memphis, TN – and get on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Travel its full length, about 400 miles, to just south of Nashville.
