Funky Bell Helmet Art – 21 Helmets Project

Wednesday, February 08, 2012 - Mud in Your Eye - JC Hilderbrand
The concept is simple. Give 21 Bell Custom 500 helmets to 21 artists in the Portland area and see what happens. Oregon’s largest metropolitan is known for its youthful, lively and progressive scene. From its kickass coffee houses to sudsy microbrew festivals, in between is a cool motorcycle culture as well.

Scary Glen Helen WORCS Pile-up

Thursday, February 02, 2012 - 5th Gear Blogged - Justin Dawes
Nobody likes dust, especially racers, off-road racers in particular. It is our nemesis, always working against our forward momentum on the course and threatening our safety. As nasty as it is, it is a part of off-roading that you must deal with. Recently a couple of YouTube vids caught one of the worst-case scenarios when the dust is so thick you can’t cut it with a samurai sword.

Riding CRF450R Dirt Bikes with Kendall Norman

Monday, January 30, 2012 - Heed 505 - Adam Waheed
This weekend I ventured off to Santa Barbara, California to do a Chad Reed-style training camp which basically entailed riding the heck out of dirt and push bikes at and around Zaca Station. To my surprise, Sunday, off-road racing ace and Baja 1000 champ Kendall Norman showed up to put in some saddle time. Afterwards he invited me to do “Moto 2” at his friend’s nearby ranch.

Ron Finch Documentary Needs Your Help

Friday, January 27, 2012 - Bryan's Blog - Bryan Harley
Ron Finch is truly one-of-a-kind. Metal master, painter, artist, and custom bike builder extraordinaire, we may never see the likes of a Finch again. So when I heard indie filmmaker Danny Grinnell is making a documentary featuring Finch, I couldn’t think of anybody whose life and craftsmanship deserve it more.

Harley-Davidson Makes Some Scratch

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - Cruiser Blog - Bart Madson
The motorcycle market is stabilizing (it seems) on a new normal – well below the million-unit annual sales of the still familiar boom years. The MIC reported a timid 0.3% increase in 2011 sales, good news in that it’s not more bad news.

Video: Motomethod Motorcycle Co-op

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 - Running on Fumes - Bart Madson
The local bike shop serves critical role for the riding community. It’s the place to get your bike serviced and repaired, but it’s also a place to shoot the breeze and talk bikes with likeminded members of the community. Motomethod in Vancouver, British Columbia, takes the riding community benefit to a whole new level. Motomethod is a bike shop co-op founded by Paul Malowany and business partner Simon Travers.

Sugarland to Play Sturgis at Buffalo Chip

Thursday, January 19, 2012 - Bryan's Blog - Bryan Harley
Sturgis 2012 might seem like a long ways away, but it’s never too early to start dreamin’, right? Just found out that my favorite place to party in Sturgis, the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground, announced Sugarland will be performing at the Chip Friday, Aug. 12. My sister saw them not too long ago and said the band puts on a great show. Knowing the Chip, this is only a sign of things to come.

Dakar Can Kiss Robby Gordon’s Ass

Friday, January 13, 2012 - Mud in Your Eye - JC Hilderbrand
Tell Robby Gordon he can’t race, and he’ll tell you to kiss his ass. There’s not much for Americans to cheer for in the Dakar Rally in terms of motorcycles, so my attention has been on Gordon and his controversial Hummer. The Baja madman has been running the world’s gnarliest rally for the past half-decade and is finally in a position to win the esteemed off-road rally.

Updated Track Layout at Racetown 395

Friday, January 13, 2012 - Heed 505 - Adam Waheed
Yesterday I visited Racetown 395 to spin some laps aboard our long-term Kawasaki KX250F as tested in the 2012 250 Motocross Shootout. Considering the loamy consistency of the dirt plus the fact that staff routinely modifies the layout make this high-desert track one of my favorites. Scott and the rest of the crew have again tweaked the layout and have done a fine job offering a variety of different jumps, turns and a few wide-open straightaways.

Ride Dirt Bikes at Night at Perris Raceway

Thursday, January 12, 2012 - Heed 505 - Adam Waheed
We’ve still got a ways to go until we’re able to enjoy the long sun-soaked days of summer. Until then Perris Raceway offers dirt bike riders the opportunity to ride their motorcycles after the sunsets courtesy of overhead track lighting system. Overall the set-up does an adequate job of illuminating the track but some caution needs to be exercised as there are shadows that hide some ruts and bumps. Still, it’s way better than playing Playstation at home.
