Born in Arezzo, Italy, Luca Scassa has had a passion for engines since he was a boy. With a father who was a mechanic, Scassa started riding off-road before making the crossover to road racing. He began his professional career in 1999 riding an Aprilia 125cc racebike. After years of competing in the Italian National Championships, Scassa eventually scored a factory ride with MV Agusta.
The 26-year-old Italian rider won the 2006 Italian Superstock championship, and then competed in the U.S. the following year where he won ‘Rookie of the Year’ in AMA Superbike. He would return to Italy in 2008 where he was crowned the Italian Superbike Champion riding an MV Agusta for Gimotorsports. In 2009, Scassa made the jump to World Superbike with mediocre results. Riding for the Perdecini World Superbike team aboard a privateer Kawasaki ZX-10-R, he finished the season back in 29th place.
In 2010 Scassa competed on a Ducati 1198 for the Supersonic Racing Team. The Italian made progress, finishing 17th overall in the championship after starting in 21 races.
For 2011 Scassa penned a contract with Triumph BE1 Racing where he will contest the World Supersport Championship. Scassa will race aboard a Triumph Daytona 675 next to his new teammate, Chaz Davies.
