Only days after its European debut, the 2009 GSX-R1000 made its first appearance on American soil in Las Vegas last night during Suzuki’s annual dealer show. Check out the full story in 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 First Look.
- The new GSX-R1000 comes in four different flavors.
- Rebound and compression valving adjustment screws are indented into the fork caps. Spring preload is adjusted at the bottom of the fork leg assembly.
- Suzuki engineers looked to boost low- and mid-range performance by reshaping the combustion chamber of the old mill, increasing the compression ratio and developing new cam profiles.
- The more compact engine of the '09 GSX-R1000 allowed Suzuki to shorten up the mainframe, bringing in the wheelbase by 10mm in an effort to make it even more nimble in the corners.
- The LED combo tail/brake light is built into the rear of the tailsection.
- The Showa rear shock works through an aluminum-alloy linkage mounted on the swingarm.
- The engine oil cooler has the same trapezoidal shape as the radiator which allowed Suzuki to narrow the lower fairing.
- The Gixxer Thou's instrument cluster includes an analog tach and a digital LCD speedo.
- The new Gixxer Thou is available in four color schemes including the traditional Suzuki blue and white.
- Bodywork that's been honed in wind tunnels will help the new Gixxer cut through wind resistance like a knife through butter.
